HARASSING COMMUNICATION
Objective
To instruct the Recruit on the various policies, procedures and methods used, when responding to an Obscene/Harassing call.
Instruction: The following material shall be discussed with the Recruit to ensure a complete understanding of the FORSYTH COUNTY SHERIFF'S OFFICE policy procedures, and methods used, when responding to a Harassing Communication investigation.
1. Investigation
Determine if the person(s) has:
- Obscene/Threatening Content: During the call makes any comment, request, suggest, or proposal, which is obscene, lewd, lascivious and intends to offend, annoy, abuse, threaten, or harass the complainant/victim.
- Repeated/Continuous Ringing: Makes or causes the telephone of another to repeatedly or continuously ring.
- Call Attempt: Makes a call whether or not conversation ensues.
- Evidence Collection: If the suspect's name is known or unknown, is there any evidence (recorded, witnessed or phone log) to the call?
- Call Tracing: Can the call be traced by the victim or the phone service?
- Phone Records: Can you get the phone records of the suspect if the suspect is using his own phone or other evidence?
- Warrant Procedures: Provide the victim with procedures on taking a warrant/forward to MCU.

The following reports and forms should be completed:
- Incident Report
- Statement
- Victim/Witness Rights Pamphlet
