BURGLARY

RADIO CODES: SIGNAL 6R (Burglar In Residence - In Progress) | SIGNAL 6B (Burglar In Business - In Progress) | SIGNAL 42 (Burglary - Delayed/Already Occurred)

Objective

To instruct the Recruit on the various policies and procedures and methods used, when responding to a Burglary investigation.

Instruction: The following material shall be discussed with the Recruit to ensure a complete understanding of the FORSYTH COUNTY SHERIFF'S OFFICE policy, procedures, and methods used, when responding to a Burglary investigation.

1. Investigation

A. Determine Status:

  1. In Progress: See In-Progress Training Task. This would be given out as a 6R (Residence) or 6B (Business)
  2. Delayed / Already Occurred: (suspect(s) have left area).

B. Investigation of Burglary:

  1. Determine if the suspect is still inside. Has the residence been cleared?
  2. Determine if entry was made, where and how. Are footprints inside? Outside? Cameras?
  3. Locate any witnesses. Obtain their names, addresses, race, sex, date of birth, and phone numbers.
  4. Determine point of exit.
  5. Protect the crime scene. Call CID/Crime Scene Tech through a supervisor if needed.

C. Report:

  1. Obtain information on the stolen property including the make, model, serial number, color, and approximate value of the property. See if the Victim has photograph of items stolen.
  2. If stolen property has serial number enter article into GCIC/NCIC through dispatch after completing a GCIC entry form.
  3. Complete appropriate report and forms.
  4. Contact neighbors and check the area for further information, evidence and investigative leads.

  • Incident Report
  • GCIC Entry
  • Property & Evidence
  • Witness Statement(s)
  • Victim/Witness Rights Pamphlet
  • BOLO
