BURGLARY
Objective
To instruct the Recruit on the various policies and procedures and methods used, when responding to a Burglary investigation.
Instruction: The following material shall be discussed with the Recruit to ensure a complete understanding of the FORSYTH COUNTY SHERIFF'S OFFICE policy, procedures, and methods used, when responding to a Burglary investigation.
1. Investigation
A. Determine Status:
- In Progress: See In-Progress Training Task. This would be given out as a 6R (Residence) or 6B (Business)
- Delayed / Already Occurred: (suspect(s) have left area).
B. Investigation of Burglary:
- Determine if the suspect is still inside. Has the residence been cleared?
- Determine if entry was made, where and how. Are footprints inside? Outside? Cameras?
- Locate any witnesses. Obtain their names, addresses, race, sex, date of birth, and phone numbers.
- Determine point of exit.
- Protect the crime scene. Call CID/Crime Scene Tech through a supervisor if needed.
C. Report:
- Obtain information on the stolen property including the make, model, serial number, color, and approximate value of the property. See if the Victim has photograph of items stolen.
- If stolen property has serial number enter article into GCIC/NCIC through dispatch after completing a GCIC entry form.
- Complete appropriate report and forms.
- Contact neighbors and check the area for further information, evidence and investigative leads.

- GCIC Entry
- Property & Evidence
- Witness Statement(s)
- Victim/Witness Rights Pamphlet
